What is Judicial Services Examination?
Judicial Services Examination or the PCS (J)-Provincial Civil Service - Judicial Examination to which they are generally referred are entrance - level examinations for law graduates to become subordinate judicial members. Under the supervision of the respective high courts, the state governments appoint lower court members based on competitive examination.
Judicial Services Examination – Eligibility Criteria
- Lower Judiciary Services - The eligibility criteria for appearance in the Examination of Judicial Services is a degree in LL.B and he / she has enrolled or qualified to be enrolled as a lawyer under the 1961 Advocates ' Act.
- Higher Judiciary Services - Candidates must be law graduates and have at least seven years of litigation practice;
Judicial Services Examination – Exam Structure
Judicial Service Examination is held in three successive stages namely;
Preliminary Examination– The preliminary examination serves as a screening for mains exam. It includes questions of an objective type. For final selection, the marks secured in the preliminary examination will not be counted. The percentages of marks vary depending on the state. In the preliminary examination, the minimum qualifying marks are 60% for general and 55% for reserved categories.
Mains Examination– The mains examination is subjective type. The examination includes three to four papers. For the final selection, the marks secured by candidates are counted. Candidates are called for viva - voice equal to three times the number of vacancies.
Viva-Voce/Personal Interview– This is the final selection stage where, among other factors, candidates are evaluated on general interest, personality and intelligence.
