CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) is a non - statutory body established under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the convenience of students seeking admission to the country's various national law universities. An entrance test is conducted to provide a list of candidates for admission to their UG / PG programs based on ' merit - cum - preference, as per the eligibility, reservation and other criteria laid down under the respective statutes of the participating Universities. The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is an all - India entrance test conducted by 21 National Law Universities (NLUs) on rotation for admission to their undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
